Found this blog post in my drafts... going to publish it.
I must not be a blogger anymore because blogging once a month is about the maximum of what I'm managing. Maybe not even less often. It's funny because in some ways I have even more to write than ever because I am SO BUSY all the time. But then again - it sort of just more of the same so it doesn't seem "blog-worthy".
Maybe a brief kid update would be in order. Sticking ages in here to make it easy. So I guess it's like a mid-year Christmas letter!
FAITH - 18 months and very little interest in talking. She's adorable and so much trouble sometimes. She would rather climb and explore than talk. BUT recently she's starting using more sounds and she will finally play along with the hand motions for songs like "Popcorn Popping" - when it suits her. She is funny and adventurous and cuddly. She sleeps amazing - just pop her in bed at the appointed time and she'll sleep until it's time to wake up. I love it!
NATALIE - is six now. She is starting to learn to read. Words and sounds don't come easy for her so to be starting at her age is really great. I don't think she has a hearing problem, but we may get her hearing checked just to be sure. She has a hard time repeating the scriptures after us when we read - we keep the words at 2-4 at a time. And we found out that she thought 'train' was 'chrain' recently, so there are subtle letter sounds that she's not picking up on naturally and that impedes her reading and speaking ability. I'll have to ask Nathan what he thinks when I see him this summer. Otherwise, she is a busy, mostly happy girl.
KENNA - started to learn to swim this past year, finally overcoming her fear of putting her face in the water. At seven, she is confident and building her skills. This year will be a big year for her developmentally I think. She's just on the cusp of being a big kid and it shows. She likes to use big words (hello, Anne of Green Gables) and they aren't always used exactly right, so it's pretty funny to hear her talk sometimes. She loves to help and surprises me all the time by completing jobs and creating things. If you ask her, she'll tell you she's "full of good ideas".
LOGAN - turned 12 this spring and received the priesthood. He is headed for the temple for the first time this weekend. He decided to jump on the soccer bandwagon thanks to Brynne's encouraging and is playing club soccer this summer and fall instead of rec league. He loves school and Scouts. His favorite parts of school are math and recess. He'll be homeschooling for the next two years and tells me he looks forward to that.
BRYNNE - is 15. She is a gem. She is working hard in school. She has decided to be more serious about soccer and for the past 5 months has trained pretty regularly with the club soccer team. I think violin is suffering a bit but I think eventually she'll find some balance. She doesn't want to give up her violin. I can't say enough good stuff about Brynne. She is really blossoming and I'm seeing wonderful things coming out of her both in her testimony and in her goals and actions.
HANNAH - my baby is 17 now and boy, does that feel weird. She got her license and I can't tell you how cute and fun and NICE it is after two whole days. OK - I worry a little when she goes out. After all, I've driven with the kid a lot. She can be a little spacey at times - but in general she is a careful driver. She drove herself to a movie and to Young Women. I think I am going to enjoy not having to do the running around. She is working HARD at school since junior year is such a big year. I think next year will be a more relaxing year for her and I'm so glad. I want her to have time to fully delve into some of her passions (jazz piano being the main one right now).
Anyone want to hear about me and Josh? We are just busy as always managing six amazing kids. Josh's business is going crazy and he's struggling to keep up with everything he needs to do there. He used to come home about 4:30 and now he's rarely home before 6. Our weekends are like relay races. Our dates are few and far between. It's nuts. But life is good. It is our busy season and we are loving it. Far too soon it's going to quiet down a bit and then how boring will that be!?!
