La semana final

It's not technically a full week, but we made the most of our last few days in Mexico.

We made the most of the Malecón boardwalk

We hiked to a viewpoint overlooking the city and the bay

And we ate all our favorite foods

La Paz is famous for its sunsets.  And I'll be honest when we first got there we saw something like this:

And I thought - that's nice, but I've been looking at ocean sunsets for a long time (Fort Bragg had some pretty spectacular ones).   So yeah, it's nice, but I'm not sure why it's famous...

but we took the obligatory 'happy-to-be-in-Mexico' pictures.  Because we were.  And it was pretty amazing weather too.

But once the sun sets, a few minutes later the sky lights up like THIS:

and then THIS....

And towards the end of the evening those oranges turn into deep purples and you're left just completely in awe of the rainbow that God painted across the sky for you.

We spent our last night enjoying that sunset from a restaurant waiting for tacos.
Can life be any more perfect?

One thing that we loved were the Christmas decorations at the government property just across from our house.  They had music and lights and a beautiful life-size nativity.

On our last fun day we spent the day at a beach Bryan and Shannon had discovered earlier in the month.  Because it was after Thanksgiving all the tourists had gone home and it was basically like our own private oasis.

There was a restaurant and pool that we used, but the best part was the private, white sand, shallow, warm gentle ocean.  There was snorkeling on the sides and incredible beach in the middle.
We had the best day there in paradise.

Our trip home was sort of uneventful.  We flew from Cabo to Denver and made it through customs.  But then there was super dense fog in Medford so the planes couldn't land.  The flight was canceled and we spent the night at a hotel.  Went back at 4am for a 6am second try to get to Medford - which luckily happened!  It was still foggy and even while we were in the air the pilot said he wasn't 100% sure he would be able to land.  So it was with some relief that we made it home that morning.  But that was a minor hiccup.  All in all, I was so glad we went.  It was really precious family time.  The weather and the food were great, but just having time as a family with no outside commitments was a very unique and special experience.  I called it a spanish immersion program at first, but soon I began calling it our family sabbatical.  It was so restful and amazing.
