Beach day

The long awaited beach day came on Saturday.

Josh helped Shannon pick up her rental car which took forever.  It was ridiculous.  So we left much later than we anticipated to drive to the beach.  There is one very famous beach that we would like to see but they only allow a certain number of cars there at a time, so if you are not there early enough you can either leave and go somewhere else or you can sit and wait and see if someone leaves. We decided not to sit and wait so we went back towards town to a beach we had noticed on our way up.

The beach we found was perfect! There was a restaurant but we didn’t venture in there. We camped out in the shade under some small trees off to the side. The restaurant seemed busy but it never felt like they were that many people at the beach. I think we were the only people who weren’t locals.

I didn’t take a ton of pictures! These are basically all the good ones that Shannon and I took. We were busy having fun and I kind of regret not taking a few more pictures but sometimes you just gotta live in the moment, am I right?

This entire bay is so shallow it’s about ankle high when you first walk in and goes to about thigh high at the end where the rocks start in the bed opens up. The rest is shallow and mostly just sand and some little fish swimming around. The kids loved it. The older girls swim way out or still not even up for their waste and water.

Josh, Faith, Blake and I walked out to the rocks at the edge of the bay and saw some crabs and some different fish that weren’t in the main area of the bay. it was a long walk but it never got very deep.

We met a local family that was at the beach parked right next to us on the sand. They don’t speak any English and our kids don’t speak any Spanish but they ended up playing together and collecting crabs. It was pretty fun to get to know somebody a little bit even though there was a language barrier.

We saw so many saguaro cacti on the road to the beach.   They are everywhere in Baja Sur and it’s also interesting how much greenery there is in addition to the cacti.   Apparently it rained last month and that is the explanation for a little more green in the country.
