Summer Slam
Can it really have been three months since I updated this blog? I'm ashamed. But also so busy.
We are knee-deep into summer now and it feels so overwhelming to update. I've been piecing this together for a few days to get the highlights.
After our spring trip to the church history sites we dug in for the last two months of school.
Logan did great in pole vaulting. He ended up with a PR of 12'6". He can jump higher we think, so next year should be fun. He bombed miserable at his district meet because a bad fall at practice the day before really shook him up psychologically. But after the district meet he was able to get back over that bar and end on a high note - at least for him. It was fun to watch him to vault and develop a new skill. He was just verging on varsity level jumping - which as his coach explained - any other school in Oregon he would have been varsity but we have such a stellar group of vaulters he got bumped down. An average high school varsity vault is 12'-13' so he's right in there. A good vault on the college level is 15'. The best college level vaulters are going to be doing 17'+, and at the Olympics you are looking at 19'. Which I find fascinating and crazy that someone is throwing themselves 19' into the air.
I took the three younger kids to Pinecrest for a week. We had So. Much. Fun. It was beautiful and so relaxing. Definitely planning future trips. The highlight for Faith was riding a REAL horse. Last summer she was 4 and she rode Blueberry - the miniature horse at Sunriver. Then in March we happened to be at a petting zoo that had ponies and she rode one there - but still she has reminded me fairly regularly that she had yet to ride a REAL horse. As we were saddling Hannah, Kenna and Natalie up for their rides she kept tugging on my arm. The rule in their literature was that you had to be 7 to go on trail rides. But she tugged and whispered, "mom, that girl's not 7. Mom, that girl's on a horse and she's not 7". And sure enough, there was a little girl about her size being walked around on a horse. So after the older girls headed out I asked one of the cowboys if they had anything at all a 5 year old girl could do - and surprise - if I was willing to do the walking I could lead a horse around the grove with Faith on it's back. She was SO excited.

Our Richardson reunion in Idaho was about as perfect as a family reunion can be. Seriously the best. I married into a great family.
Brynne is almost done prepping for her mission. We are so excited for her but it's so weird!

this is Tonto. He liked the grass so much he refused to budge so they brought us another horse. ;-) |
this is Modoc, who was more cooperative than Tonto |
Tonto was up for lovin', as long as he could keep eating his grass! |
