October

For our birthdays this year we decided to sneak away for one night and do something we've been wanting to do since we moved to Grants Pass...explore some of the Oregon coastline.

We miss the ocean so much, so it was really fun to soak up the sunshine and the beauty.

I think the most fun we had was the dune buggy ride we did.  It was wild...like a roller coaster on the sand!  Definitely something we want to do with the kids someday.

In Yachats we got lucky with a super low tide and cool rocks covered with anemones, mussels, and starfish just outside our hotel room. It was gorgeous!

Happy Birthday to us....

Recently we discovered a new meatless meal.  Kenna read this is a cookbook and insisted on trying it.  Potato slices that are roasted in the oven and topped with a meatless taco filling (it's pecans!!), cilantro, and green onions - followed by the salsa of your choice.  It was AMAZING!  Poor Kenna made them for herself for lunch one day and we all gobbled them up.  So we had to make them for dinner a few nights later.  I never would have tried this recipe on my own (pecans with taco seasoning on a potato??) but they are seriously so good!

Kenna has an artistic eye - this was her creation at mutual one night.  Can you believe this tiny thing will be a Mia Maid in a couple months?  Weird.

How's life going for everyone?  I feel like we've settled into a decent Covid routine.  School in the mornings and some sort of activity in the afternoon.  One friend is hosting a middle school study hall/p.e./lunch time at her house once a week.  We started a weekly park day that will continue until the weather gets nasty.  And our monthly bookclub has been a hit so far.  Maybe too much of a hit - we have 20 kids participating!

I'm teaching piano lessons once a week and enjoying it more than I thought I would.

One thing that I'm struggling with is feeling tired lately.  I'm waking up hungry in the middle of the night and I try to go back to sleep but I can't sleep when my stomach is growling...and just being awakened I don't typically fall back into a deep sleep.  So I'm trying to figure out how to get just the right food into my body before I go to bed that will carry me through the night.
