July 2020

It's almost the end of summer and I've really got to keep updated here.  The kids have been growing by leaps and bounds. Maybe a mid-year update is called for.

FAITH - she did Junior Golf this year for the first year ever and she did pretty dang good.  I honestly think we have a potential golfer on our hands.  When we golf as a family she gets tired and bored quickly, but her swing is consistent and she loves it until she's done.

She also learned how to ride a two-wheeler this year and she is loving that freedom and grownup-ness.

She is thiiiiiiis close to being  a swimmer.  She's getting stronger.   Looking forward to reaching that milestone next.

NATALIE - Natalie is growing up!  She is counting down the months until she can attend mutual (next January).  She's always got her nose in a book and if we can't find her, chances are she's on the porch swing in the backyard reading Percy Jackson or Ranger's Apprentice for the nth time.  I don't know yet what sports she likes but she did golf.  It's just not her favorite.  Her music lessons are coming along.  The hard part of having mom as a teacher is we lack consistency.

KENNA - Kenna decided this summer that she loves golf and swimming.  I couldn't be more pleased.  She's good at both and we are going to take it!  violin is coming - she goes through spurts where she loves it and then she doesn't.   Today she spent the day busily organizing a study chart for her days of school.  Earlier this week she completely rearranged and organized her bedroom.  She's a girl after my own heart in that way.

LOGAN - Love this boy.  He's been working hard at two jobs all summer.  He gave his notice to McDonald's and I think he's pretty excited to have next week be his last few days.  His other job is on an office cleaning crew.  They work nights and he doesn't mind it at all.  He's hoping to keep that job through the school year - at least for a bit.  I can't believe this is his SENIOR year of high school.  And what a bizarre senior year it's going to be.  I'm not sure it will even be close to normal.  how can we make it a special amazing year for him???  Also - college application season.  Ick.

BRYNNE - missionary life is the bomb for this girl.  She is so stinking happy to be back out serving the Lord full time doing exactly what she signed up to do.  Sure quarantine has changed missionary work somewhat, but it's still going.  The Lord knows what's needed.  She just reached her 12 month mark - 2/3 of the way through her time. Of course a solid 3 months of that was spent at home for COVID, but it's just such a blessing that she could go back out.

HANNAH + Keaton + Nova -  we miss all three of these crazy awesome people.  I think they are good.  Hoping to get some Nova time in here soon.  They are hard working and just all around awesome.  I think one of the highlights of my life is that Hannah sends me messages and videos and we talk tons.  She's one of my best friends for sure!

Josh and Kelly - we are the boring ones.  But also so extremely happy.

We had a Sunriver trip in July.  First I drove up and Ju flew out from Idaho and we spent three lovely, quiet days together.    I was on the phone with Brynne when Julia arrived and Brynne took this cute screenshot and sent it to me.  it was a happy day!

Then Josh and the kids came up (ju went home) and we had a week of partial-family vacation.  Logan stayed behind to work, which always makes me sad but it is a necessity sometimes.  I think it's good for them and good for me.  We had a blast in Sunriver though.  It really is a lovely place to play.  The girls enjoyed bike riding all over on their own.  We hiked the circumference of Todd Lake and spent a day floating down the Deschutes river, and played at South Twin Lake with the kayak too.  All in all, just a really fun trip.

One other fun day was a day trip to the Illinois River with our Nelson friends.  We all jumped off this rock into the river.  Which maybe isn't that thrilling but for the girls and I it was our first time.    The river here is perfect and amazing.

We celebrated summer with a fun NIGHT GOLF evening with the Robinson's and Huffakers.  Night golf is the best.

We flew home from Sunriver so Kenna could join the second day of Girls Camp - rafting down the river.  She had such a great day!  Love this super group of kids.

  1. Soooo love you lots, and an idea for making Logan's senior year awesome - send him out to hang with me for a couple weeks and we can explore Idaho in between classes! ;)
